LO3832 GDN-WAW 2017.08.13

Returning home after some great shows in Gdynia (day 1, day 2). This post is slightly out of chronology, but I should get back in order soon.

LO3832 (0850-0950) GDN-WAW
SP-EQL Bombardier Q400

Returning home in the best possible way, by air. Morning wake-up, short walk for the train to the airport. Quiet ride and I'm at the airport. Passing security with a small queue and the only thing left is to wait. QL arrives from Warsaw, passengers disembark, and we get to hop into the jetway soon. The flight itself takes around 60 minutes block to block due to traffic in Warsaw. All is on time. The dash, like the dash, nothing special, up, down, to the front, fast, loudsish (always better than an ATR still). A simple "bus ride" to Warsaw, nothing extraordinary. But, my first Q400 jetway boarding :)

Low cost day, Lublin by Wizz Air 2017.03.26

One day I decided that I wanted to fly to and from Lublin airport. That flying from and to is different. Plus I didn’t want to have to get back from Lublin by bus or get to Lublin by bus. Wizzair has one plane based at Lublin so the flights are schematic. After some research the final routing was chosen, mostly based on the price factor. The day was to be a sad day for my back anyway, so at least my wallet wouldn’t suffer that much. It ended to be a WAW-LTN-LUZ-NYO-GDN-WAW routing with Wizz and the last segment with Ryanair. 6 am departure from Warsaw and back in Warsaw after 8 pm. Sounds like a plan. I checked-in for my flights rather late, with hope that maybe some “better” seats could be allocated, I got 3 times an aisle, one middle and one window seat, at least at the start. As I didn’t plan on too much photography (no camera) as I was traveling very light that wasn’t too big of a problem. Of course the window seat was on the flight after which I had the shortest connection. When buying the tickets I had 25 minutes in Gdańsk. Later Ryanair changed their schedule giving me only 10 scheduled minutes to change planes... But step by step:

LO3837/LO3838 WAW-GDN-WAW Carpatair F100 experience 2016.10.29

During the late summer of 2016 LOT leased one Fokker 100 from Carpatair for it to fly on the WAW-AMS-WAW-GDN-WAW-AMS-WAW rotation. At first it was supposed to be a short term lease but later it got extended to a total of couple of months. Here aa short roundtrip to Gdansk and back.

The flight to Gdańsk departed delayed, around 20 minutes. Seated in the emergency exit (row 14). Despite the cloudy weather the flight was smooth. Almost zero turbulence. You can feel the age inside.

FR5033 WMI-GDN 2014.07.22

Needing to get to the polish Tricity for the RBAR in Gdynia I had a couple of possibilities.
1. Taking the car with friends - the road is fast and comfortable you're on a highway all the way;
2. Taking the train - with many trains to choose from, regarding the price, comfort and duration everyone will find something for themselves;
3. Flying to Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport - either with LOT Polish from WAW or Ryanair from WMI.

Luckily, a friend of mine was at the time at his summer house at the seaside, he agreed for me to stay with him for some time. Superb. So, what was left? Finding the best option for flights :)
After browsing the reservation system of both LO and FR I decided to buy a ticket with the Irish airline for 25pln (~€6) one-way from Modlin to Gdańsk. Flight departing at 1920LT and arriving at 2005LT.

The journey begun at 1715 at the Central Railway station in Warsaw where I departed on a train bound for Modlin where a shuttle bus was waiting to take the passengers from the train station to the airport. After almost an hour I've arrived at the terminal and with more than an hour to spare before the departure, I decided not to rush and have a look at the terminals' overview. Because this wasn't my first time at the airport, I knew there wasn't much to do on the air-side. That sure is a downside of that airport. Boarding was announced before the plane has arrived, and people queued up (even though everyone had assigned seats...). When everyone was let out from the terminal and was standing in a line in front of the airplane, and cabin crew was ready to take us on board, we where allowed to board the plane. Seat assigned: 18F, but because there was no one seating in the emergency exit rows, and CC needs someone to be seated aside the emergency exits so even before I occupied my seat, I've been assigned to move up to 17F. Yay! One good thing in the trip (well, two including the price). Departure from runway 08 on time, a quick turn left and a climb to 8km, after a while the captain started to descend. On our way we met a huge Cb cloud, which gave a fantastic background to the wing. Landing in Gdańsk before time, and 5 minutes after scheduled landing time I met up with my friend and was under his control from this time.
