Swiss Avro experience, 2017.01.21

On the quest to fly the Swiss Boeing 777 on one of its intra-european flighs. WAW-ZRH-HAJ-ZRH-WAW

On my way to Hannover I was supposed to get the 777, it got swapped to a Avro plane. The flight was slightly delayed, what was a good thing as my inbound was also delayed so I made it with ease. A bus took us to the plane. After boarding we waited for de-icing to be finished, at our stand, and later proceeded to the runway. The flight was cold most of the way, the heating did not kick in sufficiently almost all the way to Hannover. The flight was full. Flying an Avro is always fun, the 2*3 seating gives sufficient space for all passengers. As Swiss slowly phases out all of their Jumbolinos I was happy to get it as an addition to my CS100 and 777 flights. The crew was kind and always with a smile on their faces. I have surely disembarked with a smile on my face.

NextJet BAe ATP opf Adria TLL-ARN

After the bankruptcy of Estonian the government of Estonia formed a company that in cooperation
with Adria took over the network after Estonian. As Adria doesn't have the resources to do it with their own metal they wet-leased different machines (an BAe ATP from Nextjet, a couple Fokker 100s and Embraer 145s for different routes from different airlines). So I decided to go and try catch the ATP on a international sector. Combining it with some sightseeing in Tallinn and a short stay in Stockholm throughout the weekend sounded like a good plan. It later expanded with a couple of flights on a smaller BAe, the J32. The trip started on Friday and ended after around 48 hours with a flight back to WAW from ARN.

After the morning flight with Avies on the J32 I had plenty of time to my next flight. Lunch, a little shopping and one more, or two, tours around the terminal. But how much time may that kill? Not enough. So, after the hours have passed we finally got to board the bus that would take us to the plane. Seeing the bus stop beside the ATP ended with a smile on my face. As I was sitted in one of the first rows I was in no rush to board, instead I took the time to sooth my eyes with the view. Was supposed to sit in row 4, but as the 3 rows ahead were empty I got permission from the purser to move one ahead. So, we finally fired-up our engines, pushed back and taxied to the active runway. Quick departure and into the clouds we go.
The flight itself is smooth, the weather outside ain't great, the crew is very understanding. Just after almost an hour we landed in Stockholm. Here the weather wasn't great either, but at least it didn't rain. For the moment at least...

Alarm goes off around 6:30 am, outside it's still dark. I take my things, leave the key at the reception and walk for a tram. After a couple of stops I get off and cross the road in order to wait for the bus that will take me to the airport. I arrive there after 8 o'clock. It's still dark outside. At the same counter I'm able to check-in for my flight to Kardla and the later one to Stockholm. Which is nice as I don't have to leave my checked baggage at the locker and return for it later on. Also I get all the information I need for my return flight (having only 15 minutes of scheduled turnaround time that is important). The ground staff is notified about my presence so all should go well. Before the flight itself I have plenty of time to walk around the terminal and I must say: it's fantastic! Almost every gate looks differently. At first glance I would never say that people board through here. Also because there is not many passengers at this time of the day at the airport. On my flight there's going to be a total of 5 pax. 19 seats, free seating. From engine start-up to turn-off the flight takes 27 minutes.

EPWA 2015.12.10 RAF BAe Avro

Today, the highlight was an Royal Air Force British Aerospace Avroliner ZE701. Also taken by chance: an Enter Air 737 resting, a LOT Dreamliner heading for the runway and a LOT E195 taxiing into position.
